"Tell us about yourself!"
"My name is Hailey and I live in the Comox Valley in Vancouver Island in British Columbia. I’m in my Grade 12 year, which is almost finished in about a week so that's pretty exciting! And, I'm hoping to do a Bachelor's degree in Psychology next year in UBC Okanagan in Kelowna."

"How many scholarships did you apply to? How many did you win?"
"Yeah, I won around a total of $44,600! I applied to around 6 or 7 scholarships through GrantMe. The biggest scholarship that I won was the Beedie Luminaries of 2021, and that one is $40,000 so it was really exciting and a lot of hard work! It was so heartwarming to get that phone call. I also got some memorial bursaries and school district bursaries, too!"
"How was the interview process?"
"So, I had my interview at the end of April. It was actually kind of funny cuz I got the email and thought, “Okay, this is cool.” and then I realized, “Oh my God. I'm actually going to have to prepare myself”. And, they don't give you any questions - nothing. No preparation. You really have to think on the spot. It was actually a lot less nerve-racking once I started to know the interviewers. The only thing that was scary was that my internet was cut out for a bit! GrantMe really helped me with the workshops, especially over quarantine! I really got the hang of it and just getting used to the technology aspect of all these things."
"What was your biggest struggle in the scholarship journey?"
"Time management was a big deal for me. I've always been pretty bad at time management and especially having a part-time job during the school year, trying to apply for scholarships at the same time was overwhelming. I had constant support, especially from my mom. She always told me to put my mind to it. It took a lot of focussing, and sitting down at my desk and focussing on one task at a time. It sounds really extravagant but at least having a good month behind the due date of whatever scholarship it was really helped me. I wasn't rushing the night before trying to get everything together, and I got all the notes down. Especially for Beedie Luminaries, I sent it into the GrantMe Essay Editors like six times just to make sure it was okay!"

"They kept looking over it to make sure that everything was what I wanted to say. But yeah, time management was really hard but you really have to slow yourself down and make it to-do list. That's what I always did and stuck it right on my wall. As long as you stay focussed with what you're doing at that time, you can get it done a lot easier than you think."
